GUEST: Bill Sweeney, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs
ISSUE: Social Security
August 14th marked the 91st anniversary of Social Security. If you’re not receiving benefits, you know someone who is, or you are contributing to the program from your paycheck. A new survey from AARP shows most people don’t know a lot about Social Security. Bill Sweeney, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs with AARP says that starts with individuals not having their own SSA account, which is free to have and available to everyone. Sweeney shared how to get an account and the advantages of having that account. Additionally, Sweeney discussed the options individuals have in when to begin drawing their benefits and the factors that go into that decision. Plus, he shared resources that are available to everyone, even for people who are not AARP members.
