That Big Basketball Thingy

(We can’t legally say the words “March” or “Madness” together)

Auburn vs. Charleston

Friday, 7:27 p.m. ET, truTV

Charleston has three players who average more than 17 points per game in Joe Chealey, Grant Riller and Jarrell Brantley. This isn’t a deep team so you will see a lot of that trio. Auburn was the co-champ of the SEC but is struggling after losing Anfernee McLemore for the season. This has enabled teams to attack the basket, so the Tigers must readjust their defense. If Auburn can’t get it together, watch out for a big upset.

March Madness: March Madness is here. Some employers are keeping their employees focused throughout the NCAA tournament by having their IT departments block ESPN and CBS Sports from their computers. Experts say watching games from work costs employers more than $1.3 billion in lost productivity. Today and tomorrow are the two biggest sick days of the year for men.

March Madness Odds: Wallethub says the odds of filling out a perfect March Madness bracket are 1 in 92 quintillion.

Other odds in comparison to these …

Odds of being struck by lightning 1 in 13,500

Odds of winning the lottery 1 in 13.9 million

Odds of hitting a hole-in-one 1in 12,500

Odds of being admitted to Harvard 5.4 in /100

Odds of being born with an extra finger or toe: between 1 in 1000

Boss Button: March Madness and the round of 64 is here. http://www.ncaa.com/march-madness-live/boss has installed a ‘Boss Button’ on their Website, which allows employees to watch March Madness games while at work. Press it, and the audio feed turns off while spreadsheets pop up. Last year, the “Boss Button” was clicked over 2.5 million times.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
