Summerville, SC – Dorchester Paws took in two dogs from different cases with gunshot wounds last Thursday and Friday.
Radiographs for one of the dogs, a 7 month old terrier mix named Gwendolyn, showed a shattered femur from the gunshot. Reconstructive surgery was performed on her leg by the shelter’s staff veterinarian, Dr. Angele Bice and another veterinarian, Dr. Owen, in hopes of avoiding amputation.
Hamilton, the 3 year old pointer was shot in the shoulder. His humerus fractured, but surgery is not expected to be necessary. Shards from the bullet remain inside.
Medical costs for these dogs will total thousands of dollars. Dorchester Paws is asking for help raising the funds. Please consider donating towards our Michael’s Healing Heart medical fund to help these animals in their recovery.
Donations can be made in person at Dorchester Paws, located at 136 Four Paws Lane, by phone by calling 843-871-3820 or online at dorchesterpaws.org.
